If you want “the body of a runner,” you better start running. Weight loss and getting into shape aren’t just done by “doing stuff,” but by becoming something else. You used to be a couch potato, now you must become something else.
Many of my friends have gotten in shape by taking up running or biking to get into shape. But then it happens – they become consumed (in a healthy way) by this new activity. Some people who simply started biking to work, over the course of a year, are now riding in big group rides over 30, 40 and 50 miles. People who just casually started jogging started doing 5ks, then half-marathons.
As they grow more comfortable with the “doing stuff” part, lifestyle change beings. You crave a life of movement. You buy clothing appropriate to your activity. You eat better. Not just to count calories, but so you get run farther, or go faster. You start talking about it more with friends.
A slice of pizza and a coke were usually my post-ride meal. Now I eat fruits, veggies and healthy drinks. I do this so my muscles grow and my body feels better the next morning.
I craved travel, so I got rid of all my stuff. Today it’s easy for me to relocate on a moments notice. I can hop on a train in the next three hours and be in another city for the next week.
If you want to be a runner, start running.
If you want to take photos like a pro, take photos.
If you want to travel, buy a bus ticket.
This ain’t rocket surgery; stop talking about the things you’d love to do someday and just do them.
